Ancestors for Free - Kimberly Selma

My name is Kimberly Selma and I have been a genealogy buff for well over 20 years! I started young researching my family history as a school project. And thanks to the enthusiasm of my dear Great Aunt Dorothy, I was hooked for life! She did genealogy the old-fashioned way – lots of writing letters, visiting libraries, and searching courthouse archives. She passed away in 1995 and would be absolutely blown away by this little thing we call the Internet! Can you imagine how exciting it would have been for her to be able to view census indexes, let alone images, from the comfort of her own living room?

Genealogy is one of the most popular search terms on the Internet. There is so much to be found online today from personal homepages documenting family trees to large paid subscription sites like Ancestry.com who literally offer you genealogy records on a silver platter! And of course, everything in between. It does cost time and money to offer genealogy records online to the viewing public and many are happy to pay (as I do pay for a subscription to Ancestry). But there are still thousands, perhaps millions, of websites out there that will contain a tidbit here and there that you can add to your family tree. Best of all, a majority of these sites allow you to find your ancestors for free! Money is tight these days and subscriptions are not always affordable to those who are researching genealogy records.

My goal is to scour the web and blog about free genealogy sites that I find and share them with you. Don’t forget to add AncestorsForFree.com to your RSS reader so you can always read the next installment! Good luck finding your ancestors for FREE!
