Ancestry Toolbar Helps Search and Organize Genealogy Sources
It’s not a surprise that Ancestry.com has come up with a new gadget to help you find your ancestors. Recently, Ancestry.com released a new toolbar which you can install to your web browser. What the toolbar allows you to do is grab information off any genealogy website you might be looking at and add it your your free family tree. It can also help you organize any information you have found online and access your family tree very quickly, in the event you don’t have that information at your fingertips (perhaps while you are surfing the Internet on your lunch break at work).
The Ancestry.com toolbar also allows you to save any photos you may find online and attach them to certain people in your tree! You can also save regular text from a website as a story in your family tree. Another great feature is the ability to keep track of web links so you’ll always remember where you found that little bit of information. You can also access your Ancestry Quicklinks directly from the toolbar. And of course, you can pop right over to Ancestry.com and view your family tree at any time.
There are two places to access the Ancestry toolbar functionality. The first is from your family tree on the Ancestry.com web site. You will see a “search the web” link which will open up a search in Google with that ancestor already in the search terms. The second place is of course directly from the toolbar in the web browser, where you can choose to search the Ancestry.com site or the entire Internet.
The toolbar will work in Internet Explorer 6 or 7 and Firefox 2 or higher. You also must be running Windows XP or Vista. Unfortunately, it doesn’t run on a Mac but hopefully they will offer that option in the future.
Remember that setting up a family tree on Ancestry.com is FREE so you should take advantage of this awesome new toolbar! It really makes it easy to collect information as you research your family tree online. Go to the Ancestry toolbar page to download.
