Free Vital Records Search for English Ancestors

If you have English ancestors, then get thee over to Ancestry.com to take advantage of several free databases on English records. If your ancestors lived in England or Wales in the 19th and early 20th century, then you just might be able to find them in these resources.

First, there is the set of three FreeBMD databases. FreeBMD is an ongoing project, the aim of which is to transcribe the Civil Registration index of births, marriages and deaths for England and Wales, and to provide free Internet access to the transcribed records. The records are located on Ancestry.com where you can search for births, deaths, and marriages between 1837 – 1915 in England and Wales. What a terrific resource!

FreeBMD Marriages
FreeBMD Deaths

The other database to check out for English ancestors is the 1881 England Census. The English were required to take a census just like the USA so this is an important resource for genealogists.

You will need to create a free account at Ancestry but that is no big deal – because it’s free! They have a lot of other free databases on there you can take advantage of as well.
